| As a fan, it was the early period of the Small Faces launch to fame that I enjoyed most musically. The band had a unique raw R n' B sound that immediately locked music fans into listening to them. So I was extremely excited when I came to learn that a new box-set of those Decca Years from 1965 to 1967 were to be released this year in celebration of their 50th Anniversary. When Universal made the announcement they said: "...this deluxe boxed set will round up every recording this highly influential London group made for Decca, alongside rarities and alternative versions plus a disc of their BBC sessions including several previously unavailable recordings. All audio has been carefully remastered from the original analogue sources under the supervision of the last remaining member, drummer Kenney Jones." Also within the package it includes a handy pocket size booklet containing lots of photos, press clippings, cartoons, reviews of their songs and biogs of all band members, including original keyboard player Jimmy Winston. It also outlines their journey during this early part of their career. "Between spring 1965, when they began rehearsing at the Ruskin Arms in East London's Manor Park, and June 1967, with their farewell Decca release, the Small Faces were emblematic of a fast-moving youth culture." The Decca Box-Set comes swiftly following the release of the Immediate Box-Set covering 1967 to 1969. Universal Music, have perhaps learnt from the downside of the Immediate box-set which was much bigger in size and content and costing anything from about £120 to £160, depending on where you purchased. Whereas the Decca box-set is much smaller in size and content (5 cds, 4 postcards & booklet) at a more reasonably priced £39.99 and if you purchase direct from the Universal Music Store it will include an exclusive Limited Edition Print.
